SQUASH BUG, Anasa tristis (De Geer)
Description Picture Damage
  • adults are brownish gray to dark gray bugs
  • about 5/8 inch long
  • nymphs have a green abdomen with crimson head, thorax, legs and antennae
  • later become grayish-white with nearly black legs and antennae
  • well camouflaged

  • attacked plant stems often are enlarged but later wither and die
  • can become numerous on squash and pumpkins
